Mavericks Look To Continue Early Season Success

OMAHA, Neb. – The Maverick track and field team ventures to Vermillion, S.D. for the USD Open on Saturday, Jan. 16. This will be Omaha's third event of the season. Field events start at 10:45 a.m. while track events begin at noon.
Omaha is looking to carry over its success from the Wildcat Invitational at Kansas State on Jan. 9.
Sophomore Stephanie Ahrens posted the Summit League's top mark in the high jump with a jump of 5-08. Ahrens performance earned her the Summit League's female indoor track & field athlete of the week.
Ahrens finished fourth in the event and teammate, Taryn Derickson, came in 10th with a mark of 5-00 ¼.
In weight throw, Megan Adams posted her farthest season-opening mark and came in sixth with a distance of 46-06. Freshmen Anna Edet and Maddy Partridge each posted personal bests in the event Edet was seventh at 46-02 ½ while Partridge threw 45-02 ½ to finish eighth.
Taleah Williams finished seventh with a distance of 17-00 in the long jump.
On the track, freshman Mackenzie Zach led Omaha in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.27. Tschida Johnson ran a personal best time of 8.31 and finished just behind.
Johnson was sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 27.48, just ahead of Zach who finished eight at 27.64.
After the USD Open, the next meet for the Mavericks will be the Jim Emmerich Alumni Invitational at South Dakota State on Jan. 23.
