Mavericks take Sixth at Summit Championship

MACOMB, Ill. – The Omaha cross country team came in sixth at the Summit League Championship on Saturday.
Will Koenig finished 17th overall with a time of 22:39.8 to lead the Mavericks over the 6K course at Spring Lake Park.
Omaha finished with 167 points for the championship. South Dakota won the event with 42 points while South Dakota State finished second with 58 points. North Dakota State was third (68) while IUPU (90) and Fort Wayne (159) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Following the Mavericks, Oral Roberts finished seventh (175) and host Western Illinois was eighth (220).
“Today was a good opportunity for four of our freshman to see what it's like to compete in the highly competitive Summit League Championships,” said head coach Chris Richardson. “Unfortunately, as a whole, our nerves got to us today and we didn't run at the same level we have been this season.”
Kayla Sabotin was second for the Mavericks and 23rd in the 68-person race with a time of 22:58.0.
Anita Jenkins finished 41st overall with a time of 23:55.7, and Rosie Gensichen completed the course in 24:05.6 to finish in 48th place.
Renata Valquier-Chavez was fifth for UNO and 51st overall at 24:38.1.
Also running for the Mavericks were Alyssa Averhoff (56th/24:58.8), Alyssa Thavenet (57th/25:05.7), Lauren Houston (59th/25:20.8) and Sarah Steffensmeier (60th/25:26.3)
The Mavericks return to action at the NCAA Regionals in Iowa City, Iowa on Friday, Nov. 11.
