Mavericks Fourth in Summit Indoor Preseason Poll

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Omaha track & field team has been picked to finish fourth in the annual Summit League preseason coaches' poll.
The Mavericks earned 26 points in the voting, tying them with Oral Roberts. North Dakota State was picked to win its Summit-record 10th consecutive indoor championship, receiving 49 points and seven first-place votes. South Dakota got the other first-place vote and 41 points in the voting to finish second.
South Dakota State (39) was third, just ahead of the Mavericks and ORU. Western Illinois (6th/15), Fort Wayne (7th/15) and IUPUI (8th/13) rounded out the voting.
Last season, the Mavericks finished fifth in the indoor championship. Junior Stephanie Ahrens and sophomore Lauren Houston were both all-league selections last season. Ahrens earned All-Summit League honors by finishing second in the high jump and third in the 60 meter hurdles. Houston was All-Summit for her second-place finish in the 800 meters.
The Summit League Indoor Championship will be held on February 24-25 in Brookings, S.D.
The Mavericks open the 2016-17 season at the K-State Winter Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 10.
