
Omaha Looks to Continue Putting Up Top Performances at SDSU

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha track & field team travels to Brookings, S.D. SDSU Classic on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 12-13. Running and field events begin at 2 p.m. on Friday. The meet continues on Saturday with running events starting at 9:30 a.m. and field events at 11 a.m.
Omaha competed in the prestigious Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational last weekend where the top flight competition pushed many Mavericks to their best performances of the season. Eleven Mavs either recorded season or personal bests in their respective events.
Sophomore Stephanie Ahrens led the charge with her fourth place finish in the high jump. Her leap of 5-9 ¾ put her back at the top of the Summit League and was good for a season best.
Junior Taryn Derickson also notched a season best in the high jump with a leap of 5-4 ¾.
The Mavs excelled in running events as well. In the 60 meter preliminaries, junior Nicole Liske and freshman Zarria Nichols both set personal bests, Liske finishing in 8.01 seconds and Nichols in 8.23 seconds.
Sophomore Alexis Allgood and freshman Daylee Olson each hit personal bests in the 400 meters. Allgood finished with a time of 1:01.22, and Olson had a time of 1:02.16.
Freshman Lauren Houston was eighth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:14.34, and junior Alyssa Thavenet finished with a time of 2:17.39 which was good for a season best.
In the distance events, sophomore Kayla Sabotin set a personal best in the mile with a time of 5:10.91.
Sophomore Alyssa Averhoff finished seventh in the 3,000 meter with a time of 10:20.24, a new personal best.
Sophomore Rosie Gensichen finished with a time of 18:58.06 in the 5,000 meters, and senior Avery Schmidt completed the race with a time of 19:24.05. Both set personal bests in the event.
The Mavs return to Lincoln, Neb. next week for the Nebraska Tune-up at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Feb. 19.
