Three Mavs Qualify for Finals on Day One

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Omaha track & field team qualified three athletes for the finals after the first day of the Summit League Indoor Championship in Fort Wayne, Ind.
The Mavericks are in eighth place with three points. Defending champion North Dakota State leads with 86 points. South Dakota is second with 43 points and South Dakota State is third at 40.
Junior Alyssa Thavenet and freshman Lauren Houston qualified for the finals in the 800 meters with third- and fourth-place finishes, respectively. Thavenet set a person best by finishing with a time of 2:14.22. Houston finished with a time of 2:14.79. The 800 meter finals will be run at 2:40 p.m. on Saturday.
Sophomore Stephanie Ahrens qualified for the finals in the 60 meter hurdles with a second-place finish. Ahrens set a personal best with a time of 8.87 seconds which is good for seventh in school history. The 60 meter hurdles finals will be run at 2:20 p.m.
Ahrens also will compete in the high jump on Saturday where she has posted the Summit's top mark this season.
Omaha's distance medley team placed sixth with a time of 12:53.32. The team consisted of freshmen Mads Nelson and Daylee Olson, and sophomores Alexis Allgood and Rosie Gensichen.
In field events, freshman Taleah Williams saved her best jump of the season for last. Williams set a personal record in the long jump with a leap of 17-10 ¾, finishing just out of the top eight in ninth place.
Field events for day two of the championship begin at 11:30 a.m., and track events start at 1 p.m.
