Mavs Place 5th in Summit League Championship

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Omaha track and field team earned fifth place at the Summit League Indoor Championship on Saturday.
The Mavericks accumulated 45 points, and three Mavericks secured four All-Summit League honors on Saturday by placing in the top three. North Dakota State claimed its ninth straight women's title with 220.5 points. South Dakota was second with 181.5 points, and South Dakota State was third at 107.
Sophomore Stephanie Ahrens led the way for the Mavs by earning All-Summit in the high jump and 60 meter hurdles. Ahrens placed second in the high jump with a leap of 5-05 ¾. In the 60 meter hurdles, Ahrens finished in third with a time of 8.95 seconds.
In the high jump, the only person to top Ahrens was teammate junior Taryn Derickson. Derickson took home first and also got All-Summit honors with a jump of 5-05 ¾.
Freshman Lauren Houston also earned All-Summit honors by racing to a second-place finish in the 800 meters. Houston finished with a time of 2:13.29. Junior Alyssa Thavenet finished in sixth in the event with a time of 2:15.39.
In the triple jump, sophomore Noni Henderson and freshman Taleah Williams placed sixth and seventh, respectively. Henderson set a season best with her jump of 36-07 ¾. Williams had a leap of 36-01 ½.
Junior Amanda Conlin had the best throw of her career in the shot put on Saturday. Conlin had a toss of 44-07 ½ to set a personal high but did not finish in the top eight.
The Mavericks will open the outdoor track and field season at the Tulsa Duels in Tulsa, Okla. on Mar. 18 and 19.
