Omaha Primed for Two-Day Husker Invite

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha track & field team is set to compete this weekend in the two-day Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Neb. Events on Friday, Feb. 5 begin at 11:30 a.m., and events on Saturday, Feb. 6 start at 9:30 a.m. at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
Omaha is looking for its momentum gained from last this past weekend will carry over to this weekend.
Omaha had 15 top-five placers last Friday at Northern Iowa led by top finisher's sophomores Stephanie Ahrens and Alyssa Averhoff. Ahrens was first in the high jump with a leap of 5-7 ¼. Averhoff won the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:31.19.
Finishing behind Averhoff in the 3,000 meters were sophomores Kayla Sabotin and Rosie Gensichen. Sabotin finished as runner-up with a time of 10:39.15, and Gensichen finished in fifth with a time of 10:56.97.
In other track events, junior Nicole Liske and freshman Zarria Nichols placed third and fifth respectively in the 60 meters. Liske ran a time of 8.06, and Nichols ran a time of 8.25 in the finals.
Freshman Lauren Houston finished third in the 400 meters with a time of 59.31.
In field events, Omaha had three triple jumpers place in the top five. Freshman Taleah Williams was second and set a personal best with her jump of 35-4 ½. Sophomore Noni Henderson jumped 34-5 for a third-place finish. Liske recorded a jump of 33-10 and finished in fourth.
Junior Amanda Conlin and freshman Anna Edet finished third and fifth, respectively, in the shot put. Conlin had a toss of 43-4 ¼, and Edet posted a mark of 39-6 ¾
Next weekend the Mavericks return to Brookings, S.D. for the SDSU Indoor Classic on Feb. 12 and 13.
