Omaha Fifth in Summit Outdoor Preseason Poll

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Omaha track and field team has been selected to finish fifth in the annual Summit League outdoor preseason coaches' poll.
The Mavericks earned 26 points in the voting, placing them behind Oral Roberts (31) in fourth and just in front of Western Illinois (14) in sixth. North Dakota State was picked to win its Summit League record eighth straight outdoor championship, receiving 49 points and seven first-place votes. South Dakota got the other first-place vote and 43 points in the voting to finish second while South Dakota State (36) was picked third.
IUPUI (Tied-7th/12) and IPFW (Tied-7th/12) rounded out the voting.
Last season, Omaha finished in fifth for the outdoor championship. Sophomore Stephanie Ahrens finished with all-league honors after placing third in the high jump. Ahrens, junior Taryn Derickson and freshman Lauren Houston will lead the Mavs after capturing all-league honors during the indoor season.
The Summit League Outdoor Championship will be held on May 12-14 in Vermillion, S.D.
The Mavericks open the 2015-16 season at the Tulsa Duels on March 18-19.
