OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha track and field team begins its outdoor season at the Tulsa Duels in Tulsa, Okla. The two day meet will take place on March 18 at 1 p.m. and March 19 at 9:30 a.m.
The Mavs are coming off of a fifth place finish in the Summit League Indoor Championship on Feb. 26 and 27. Omaha had three athletes earn All-Summit League honors in four events.
Sophomore Stephanie Ahrens earned All-Summit League honors in the high jump outdoors last season and in both the high jump and the 60 meter hurdles during the recently completed indoor season.
Ahrens took second in the high jump with a mark of 5-05 ¾. She also finished third in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.95 seconds, good for another All-Summit League honor.
Junior Taryn Derickson placed first in the high jump with a leap of 5-05 ¾, her second career All-Summit honor. Derickson edged Ahrens in the high jump based on a tie-breaker that figures in misses at the previous height.
Freshman Lauren Houston raced to a second-place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:13.29 to earn All-Summit honors.
Following action in Tulsa, Omaha returns to action at the Wildcat Outdoor Classic in Wayne, Neb. on Saturday, March 26 at 11 a.m.
