Mar 18, 2016 | General
OMAHA, Neb. – The University of Nebraska Board of Regents has approved a guaranteed 10-year marketing agreement between Omaha Athletics and Learfield.
“The industry leading expertise of Learfield has enabled UNO Athletics to grow considerably during our transition to Division I,” said Trev Alberts, Vice Chancellor, Athletics. “As our department has grown, our business model has matured into one that has increased our value with our corporate partners, particularly with the building of Baxter Arena.”
“This guarantee agreement is the next step in the business development of Maverick Athletics, most importantly, providing us with a stable source of revenue to support the development of our student-athletes for the next 10 years. It also gives us an opportunity, with due diligence, to further enhance the UNO and Omaha brand.”
The agreement will begin with the 2016-17 academic year and run through 2025-26.
Learfield has been the exclusive multimedia rights holder for the Mavericks since February 2014, when it acquired the assets of Nelligan Sports Marketing. Omaha Sports Properties is Learfield's dedicated team which manages all aspects of the rights relationship and works with local, regional and national businesses wanting to align with athletics through venue signage; event sponsorships; television; digital engagement and visibility via OMavs.com, radio game broadcasts and coaches' shows on the Omaha Sports Network.
"We're pleased to extend our relationship with UNO Athletics," said Learfield President and CEO Greg Brown. "Trev and his team are great partners and have done a terrific job building the athletics program and developing student-athletes. We're grateful for the opportunity to represent the Mavericks, working together to drive strategic sponsorships and develop new ideas to further advance the UNO brand.”
Learfield has been embedded in the collegiate sports landscape for more than four decades. The company manages multimedia rights and sponsorship initiatives for 124 collegiate properties nationwide, including three other Summit League members IPFW, South Dakota, South Dakota State, and two other NCHC members North Dakota and St. Cloud State.
