Omaha Returns to Action at the Emporia State Relays

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha track and field team travels to Emporia, Kan. for the Emporia State Relays on Saturday at noon.
The Mavericks have competed just once during the current outdoor season. Sophomore Noni Henderson led the Mavs with two top-eight finishes at the Tulsa Duels on March 18 and 19. Henderson placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 36-09 and seventh in the long jump with a jump of 17-09 ¼.
Junior Taryn Derickson had UNO's top overall finish, placing second in the high jump with a leap of 5-03.
In track events, a trio of sprinters finished in the top eight in 400 meters. Freshman Lauren Houston took fifth place with a time of 59.44. Junior Alyssa Thavenet finished in sixth with a mark of 1:00.50, and junior Alexis Allgood placed seventh with a time of 1:00.79.
In the 3,000 meters, senior Perla Gutierrez led Omaha coming in third with a time of 11:01.79. Senior Avery Schmidt and freshmen Mads Nelson and Annie Catania finished in sixth, seventh and eighth respectively. Schmidt set a personal record with a time of 11:22.16. Nelson posted a time of 11:32.78, and Catania raced to a time of 11:59.03.
Omaha will have next weekend off before traveling out west for the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. on April 15 and the Long Beach Invitational in Long Beach, Calif. on April 16.
