Mavs Head West For a Pair of California Meets

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha track and field team travels to California for a pair of meets this week. The Mavericks will compete in the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. on April 14 beginning at 5:40 p.m. CT and on April 15 starting at 11 a.m. CT. On April 16 the Mavs will participate in the Long Beach Invitational in Long Beach, Calif. beginning at 11 a.m. (CT).
The Mavericks had a week off, last competing on April 2 at the Emporia State Relays.
Sophomore Stephanie Ahrens took first in the high jump with an outdoor personal best and the Summit League's top mark for the season of 5-10.
Junior Taryn Derickson also had a strong showing in the high jump with a seventh-place finish. She jumped a personal best of 5-05 ¼.
In the hammer throw, sophomore Lauren Doeschot and freshman Anna Edet had throws that put them in ninth and 10th, respectively, in school history. Doeschot finished with a mark of 132-06, and Edet finished with a toss of 131-07.
In other field events, junior Nicole Liske finished third in the long jump with a leap of 18-08 ½.
In track events, senior Perla Gutierrez and freshman Annie Catania each finished in eighth in their respective events. Gutierrez crossed the finish line with a time of 18:52.88 in the 5,000 meters, and Catania raced to a time of 12:30.55 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase.
Following action on the West Coast, Omaha will compete in the two-day John Jacobs Invitational in Norman, Okla. on April 22-23.
