Omaha Travels to Oklahoma for John Jacobs Invitational

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha track & field team travels to Norman, Okla. for the John Jacobs Invitational on April 22-23. Events begin at 5 p.m. on Friday and 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Omaha competed against top flight athletes last weekend in the Bryan Clay Invitational and the Long Beach Invitational in California, doing well in both meets.
At the Bryan Clay Invitational, sophomore Stephanie Ahrens soared above the competition winning the high jump for the second consecutive meet, setting a new personal high with a jump of 5-11 ¼. That's good for second in school history and the top mark in the Summit League this season.
In track events, freshman Lauren Houston competed in the 800 meters for the first time this outdoor season and finished with a time of 2:12.85, which was good for sixth in school history.
At the Long Beach Invitational, junior Taryn Derickson tied for third in the high jump with a leap of 5-07 on her a first attempt clearance for a personal record.
The 4x400 relay team raced to a season best time of 4:00.92 and a ninth-place finish in the meet. The relay team consisted of junior Alyssa Thavenet, sophomore Alexis Allgood, and freshmen Houston and Daylee Olson.
The Mavericks will be busy next week, competing in the three-day Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa and the two-day Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola, Iowa. The Drake Relays will run from April 28-30 and The Kip Janvrin Open will go through April 28-29.
