Omaha Heads to Iowa for a Pair of Meets

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha track and field team will travel to Iowa for two meets this week. The Mavericks will compete in the Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola on Thursday and Friday, April 28-29. They'll also compete in the prestigious Drake Relays in Des Moines on Thursday-Saturday, April 28-30.
Events at the Janvrin Open begin at 2 p.m. each day while events at the Drake Relays start at 3 p.m. on Thursday, 8 a.m. on Friday and at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Last weekend the Mavericks posted a strong showing at the John Jacobs Invitational in Norman, Okla.
Sophomore Stephanie Ahrens picked up a second-place finish in the high jump with a mark of 5-07 ¼. Ahrens has finished in the top two in all three meets she has competed in during the outdoor season.
Freshman Anna Edet posted a personal best throw of 138-05, a mark that put her eighth in the school record book.
In other field events, junior Nicole Liske and freshman Taleah Williams performed well in the long jump. Liske finished in ninth with a mark of 17-11 ¾, and Williams recorded a personal best with a leap of 17-07.
In track events, freshman Lauren Houston and junior Alyssa Thavenet both finished in the top eight in the 800 meters. Houston finished with a time of 2:13.84 to earn fourth, and Thavenet finished in seventh at 2:15.36.
Next weekend, the Mavericks will compete in the Nebraska Invite in Lincoln, Neb. on Saturday, May 7.
