Mavericks Head To Summit League Championship

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha track & field team will compete for a Summit League Championship beginning Thursday, May 12. The meet runs through Saturday at South Dakota's Lillibridge Track Complex.
The Mavericks, who were picked fifth in the pre-season coaches' poll, have five athletes ranked in the top eight in the Summit in their respective events.
Stephanie Ahrens leads the way for UNO, ranked first in the high jump with a mark of 5-11 ¼. That mark also is 10th best in the NCAA this season. Ahrens earned All-Summit honors last year by taking third in the event. She is also just outside the top 10 in the Summit in the 100 meter hurdles, ranked 11th with a season-best time of 14.06.
Taryn Derickson is fourth in the Summit in the high jump with a mark of 5-07. Derickson was the Summit indoor high jump champion in February and along with Ahrens, earned All-Summit honors for the indoor season.
In other field events, Noni Henderson is seventh in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 36-09. Nicole Liske is eighth in the long jump with a leap of 18-08 ½.
Megan Adams is just outside the top eight in the javelin with a season-best throw of 127-03.
On the track, Lauren Houston is ranked third in the Summit in the 800 meters with a time of 2:09.86, a time that's third-best all-time at UNO and a little more than a second behind the top time in the league.
Competition begins at 10 a.m. on Thursday with the hammer throw followed at 11 a.m. by the heptathlon and decathlon. North Dakota State is seeking its ninth straight women's outdoor championship.
