Gordon Begins Play at NCAA Regionals

STILLWATER, Okla. – Freshman Kevin Gordon shot a score of 88 in the first round of the NCAA Regionals on Monday at the Karsten Creek Golf Club.
“It was obviously a tough day for Kevin,” said head coach Seth Porter. “He dealt with some nerves throughout the day, which is normal. I was encouraged by the fact that he hit some quality shots during the last few holes and hopefully, we can build on that for the final two days of the regional.”
Gordon, a freshman from Whitby, Ontario, is the first UNO men's golfer to qualify for NCAA play during the Division I era. He earned his way in by winning the Summit League Championship on May 3.
Gordon went out in 42 and shot 46 on the inward nine. His toughest stretch came on the 15th and 16th holes. He double bogeyed 15, a long par three measuring 217 yards. Then on the 471-yard par-4 16th hole, he had a quadruple bogey.
Still, Gordon rallied for pars on the last two holes, two more bruisers that measured 471 yards (par 4) and 551 yards (par 5).
Gordon will begin the second round in a tie with Purdue's Stuart Macdonald and Louisiana's Haraldur Magnus for 71st in the 75-player field. Tee times begin at 8 a.m.
