Gordon Concludes Play at NCAA Regional

STILLWATER, Okla. – Freshman Kevin Gordon shot 83 on Wednesday to wrap up his participation in the NCAA Men's Golf Regional.
Gordon finished with a score of 251, third best among the group of five individual golfers to qualify for the tournament. He finished in a three-way tie for 67th overall in the field of 75 golfers.
“Kevin got off to a tough start today, and it certainly wasn't what we had scripted,” said head coach Seth Porter. “But he hung in there and had a stretch in the middle where he played pretty well on a very difficult golf course. This is the kind of place where just one bad shot become magnified.
“This was clearly an eye-opening experience, not just for Kevin but for me and the whole team, and we're better off as a program for participating. I think what Kevin learned, and I'll tell the other guys, is that at this level, every shot counts and you have to be 100 percent committed to each shot.”
Gordon again started his round on the 10th hole and was six over par after the first four holes. But he played the final five holes on the front side in just one over before making the turn and earning birdies on the par-5 first hole and the par-4 fourth.
Over the last three holes, Gordon double-bogeyed the par-3 seventh hole and had a triple bogey on the last, the longest hole at the Karsten Creek Golf Club at 623 yards.
The top five teams in the tournament – host Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Clemson, Louisville and Purdue as well as the top individual not on those teams, UMKC's Antoine Rozner who finished second overall– will advance to the NCAA Championship in Eugene, Ore. at the end of the month.
