Ahrens Earns UNO Debut in NCAA Preliminaries

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Stephanie Ahrens made the first appearance by an Omaha athlete in the NCAA Track & Field Preliminaries on Friday, finishing in a tie for 30th in the high jump.
The competition was less than ideal for all of the competitors. Due to inclement weather at Kansas's Rock Chalk Park, the high jump was moved up from 5 p.m. to 10:30 a.m. and was held indoors.
Ahrens cleared a top mark of 5-05 ¼ while competing in the second flight.
“Steph gained a lot of valuable experience jumping with the best in the country,” said head coach Chris Richardson. “She had a heck of a season and with two years left, the future is very bright for her.”
Ahrens had the top high jump mark in the Summit League during the outdoor season with a personal best mark of 5-11 ¼. That put her just one-quarter of an inch from tying the school record. She was the Summit League Champion in the event and was a member of the All-Summit Team for the second straight year.
Ahrens was the first UNO female athlete to qualify for NCAA competition and the second Maverick to do so in 2015-16, the first year of the school's Division I membership.
