Mavericks Compete In Lincoln This Week

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha track and field team stays in-state this week to compete in the Nebraska Invite on Saturday, May 7. Events begin at 11 a.m. at the Ed Weir Track in Lincoln.
Last week, the Mavericks competed in both the Drake Relays and the Kip Janvrin Open in Iowa.
Sophomore Stephanie Ahrens took second place in the high jump at the Drake Relays. She posted a mark of 5-09 3/4 which was good for her fourth top-two finish on the season.
Also at Drake, freshman Lauren Houston competed in the 800 meters, finishing in sixth with a personal best with a time of 2:09.86. The time also was third-best in the Summit League and third-best in UNO history.
At the Kip Janvrin Open, junior Alyssa Thavenet posted a season-best time of 2:14.19 in the 800 meters en route to a first-place finish.
In the 400 meters, Houston and sophomore Alexis Allgood notched top-five performances. Houston finished in second with a personal best time of 58.34, and Allgood placed fourth and secured a personal record time of 59.69.
In field events, juniors Taryn Derickson and Nicole Liske earned sixth-place finishes in their respective events. Derickson scored a mark of 5-01 in the high jump, and Liske had a leap of 17-08 in the long jump.
The Nebraska Invite will be UNO's last meet before the Summit League Championship on May 12-14 at Vermillion, S.D.
