Jul 26, 2016 | Women's Golf
OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha men's and women's golf head coach Seth Porter announced that Easton Key has been hired as an assistant coach for both the men's and women's teams.
A graduate of Arkansas State and a two-year letterman there, Key spent two seasons as a graduate assistant coach for the Red Wolves.
“Easton has had success both as a collegiate coach and a player, so we're very fortunate to be able to add someone of his caliber to our staff,” said Porter. “In his short time coaching at Arkansas State, he helped the team improve in place both at the conference tournament and in the national rankings. He'll be a great mentor for our student-athletes.”
The Meridian, Miss., native helped lead Arkansas State to three top-five finishes in 2014-15 and five tournament championships during the 2015-16. The Red Wolves went on to earn third place in the Sun Belt Conference and finish with a national ranking of 80.
Key joined the Arkansas State coaching staff after competing two seasons with the Red Wolves in 2012-13 and 2013-14, during which time he was named a 2013 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar. He collected six top-10 finishes, including an individual title at the 2012 Bill Ross Intercollegiate.
He led or tied for the team-best season stroke average as both a junior and senior, posting a 75.2 average in 2014 and a 74.1 average in 2013. His 74.1 average is tied for the seventh lowest at Arkansas State over the last decade.
Key transferred to Arkansas State after two seasons at Meridian (Miss.) Junior College where he helped lead the Eagles to a runner-up finish at the 2010 NJCAA National Championship. Prior to his time at MJC, Key was a two-time all-state selection at Lamar High School while leading the program to five consecutive state championships.
Key earned his bachelor's degree in 2014 from Arkansas State in psychology with an area of concentration in sport performance. He earned his master's degree in sports administration in the summer of 2016.
