Women's Golf Opens Season at Home

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's golf team opens the fall season at its own UNO Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 3-4. The teams will play 36 holes on Saturday and 18 on Sunday beginning at 8 a.m. each day at ArborLinks in Nebraska City.
This will be the first year of a women's tournament at the UNO Invitational which in its first three years had been just a men's event. Live stats for the tournament will be available at OMavs.com.
Coaches
Seth Porter will begin his first full year as the head coach of both the men's and women's teams following a stint as interim women's head coach in last spring. Over the summer, he hired Easton Key as his assistant. Key comes to Omaha after a standout college career at Arkansas State where he later served as a graduate assistant for the men's program.
Who's Back, Who's Gone?
The Mavericks return five players from the 2015-16 season including junior Megan Vetrovsky and sophomores Jordan York and Mandy Boyle who ranked 2-3-4 in team scoring. Vetrovsky was UNO's top scorer in the Summit League Championship in April, shooting 231 to finish in a tie for 11th, as the Mavericks finished in eighth place.
The Mavericks' biggest loss from last year's team is graduated senior Katie Kesti. She led the team in scoring and twice earned a top-10 finish including a season-best tie for fourth at the Saluki Invitational in March. She graduated with the third-best career scoring average in school history (80.58).
The Newcomers
Omaha welcomes three freshmen to the mix this season including Midwesterners Sami Langford (Madison, S.D./Madison) and Haley Wineman (Walton, Neb./Lincoln Lutheran) as well as Samantha Chong, a native of Glugor, Malaysia.

The Mavericks will play in five tournaments in the fall with trips to Nebraska, Creighton and Seton Hall on the schedule. Following the UNO Invitational, they will take part in the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial on Sept. 12-13 at Springfield, Mo.
