Mavericks Take Fourth at Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Omaha cross country team took fourth place at the Woody Greeno/Dirksen Invite on Saturday, earning 99 points over the 6K course at Pioneers Park.
South Dakota won with 32 points, followed by host Nebraska with 47. Kansas State was third with 53.
Freshman Willa Koenig led the Mavericks for the second consecutive meet, earning a 12th-place finish with a time of 22:53.3 for nine points. Her time was the fastest a Maverick has run on that course in the past seven years.
Freshman Renata Valquier-Chavez was second for the Mavericks and 29th overall, scoring 20 points with a time of 23:34.7. Junior Kayla Sabotin clocked a time of 23:35.5 to finish 30th overall for 21 points.
"Our top runners continue to impress. So far this year, the average team time has been consistently faster on the same courses," head coach Chris Richardson said. "This race was a good test to see where we are and will help us prepare for the challenging meets ahead."
Junior Alyssa Averhoff was fourth for UNO, running a time of 24:08.8 that put her 53rd overall with 24 points. Freshman Anita Jenkins was fifth for Omaha with a 54th-place finish while scoring 25 points and clocking a time of 24:11.4.
In all, 11 Mavericks competed in the women's field of 156 runners.
Omaha returns to action next weekend as it heads north to Minneapolis, Minn. The Mavericks will compete in the Roy Griak Invitational at Minnesota on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 1:10 p.m.
