Omaha Visits Minnesota for Roy Griak Invitational

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha cross country team heads north this weekend to compete at the Roy Griak Invitational at Minnesota on Saturday, Sept. 24. The meet begins at 1:10 p.m. at the University of Minnesota Les Bolstad golf course in Minneapolis, Minn.
The competition is the third meet for the Mavericks this season. Omaha has opened 2016 with back-to-back fourth-place finishes at the Augustana Twilight (Sept. 2) and at the Woody Greeno/Dirksen Invite (Sept. 17).
Willa Koenig led UNO for the second straight race, putting up a season-best time of 22:52.3 over the course at Pioneers Park. Her time was the fastest a Maverick has run on that course in the past seven years, and she finished 12th in the field of 156 runners.
Renata Valquier-Chavez ran second for the Mavericks and finished 29th with a time of 23:34.7. Kayla Sabotin finished right after her in 30th place with a time of 23:35.5.
Alyssa Averhoff was fourth for Omaha and came in 53rd with a time of 24:08.8, while Anita Jenkins finished fifth for UNO with a 54th-place finish and clocking a time of 24:11.4.
Following the race at Minnesota, the Mavericks head to the NCAA Regional Preview on Saturday, Oct. 1 in Iowa City, Iowa.
