
Mavericks to Run in NCAA Regional Preview

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha cross country team will compete in the NCAA Regional Preview on Saturday, Oct. 1 at Ashton Cross Country Course in Iowa City, Iowa.
This is the fourth meet for the Mavericks this season and the third in as many weeks. Omaha opened the season with back-to-back fourth places finishes and competed in the Roy Griak Invitational last weekend at Minnesota.
Renata Valquier-Chavez led the Mavericks for the first time this season last weekend, running a time of 24:31.1 to finish 203rd overall. Willa Koenig was second for UNO and 225th overall in a time of 24:45.
Kayla Sabotin crossed the finish line next in 261st place with a time of 25:14.1. Rosie Gensichen was fourth for Omaha in 280th with a time of 25:33.1.
Freshman Anita Jenkins completed the scoring for the Mavericks, running a time of 25:50.7 to finish in 290th place.
Koenig enters action this weekend ranked third in the Summit League at 6K with a time of 22:53.3 run at Nebraska on Sept. 16. Valquier-Chavez is fifth in the Summit at the same distance with a time of 23:34.7, also run at Nebraska. Sabotin (6/23:35.5), Alyssa Averhoff (9/24:08.8) and Jenkins (10/24:11.4) also rank in the top 10.
Following this week's meet, the Mavericks will be back in action in two weeks at the Mount Marty Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 22.
