Mavericks Picked Seventh In Coaches Poll

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Omaha men's golf team has been picked seventh in the annual preseason Summit League coaches poll.
The Mavericks received 23 points in the voting putting them just behind North Dakota State (28) and just ahead of IUPUI (21).
Last season, the Mavericks finished as runner ups for their best finish in four years. Kevin Gordon was the individual medalist, the Championship MVP and an NCAA regional qualifier. He and senior Ben Maskus are two of three returning members of the all-tournament team.
Denver was chosen the preseason favorite for the third time in four years, receiving 62 points and seven first-place votes. The Pioneers won the Summit League title in 2014. South Dakota State got the other two first-place votes and was second with 54 points. The Jackrabbits are the defending Summit Champions. South DAkota was third with 53 points. The Mavericks have the Summit League's seventh-best team stroke average at 301.6 through the fall season. Gordon leads the Mavericks with a stroke average of 73.5 which has him in a tie for sixth in the league while Maskus is 14th overall with a stroke average of 74.7.
The Mavericks begin their spring season at The Colin Montgomerie hosted by Houston Baptist on Feb. 27-28. The Summit League Championship is April 30 - May 2 in Newton, Kan.
