MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Omaha track & field team kicked off its 2017-18 season with its share of personal best marks at the Kansas State Invitational on Saturday.
Anna Edet didn't waste any time at the meet, setting a personal best and second-best program mark in the weight throw at 55 feet 2.75 inches (16.83 meters). Megan Adams took seventh in 47 feet 4.25 inches (14.43 meters), Maddy Partridge finished eighth with a toss of 46 feet 3.25 inches (14.10 meters), and Lauren Doeschot finished ninth with a throw of 41 feet 7.75 inches (12.69 meters).
In the high jump, two-time reigning Summit League high jump champion Stephanie Ahrens tied for second with a jump of 5 feet 8.75 inches (1.75 meters). Cassady Sunderman took eighth with a leap of 5 feet 3 inches (1.60 meters), a personal best.
In the 1,000 meters, Annie Catania and Anita Jenkins finished second and third in 3:05.75 and 3:05.77, respectively. Both women set personal records.
Edet also competed in the shot put where she placed sixth at 39 feet 6.5 inch (12.05 meter) toss. Cecelia Yale finished eighth with a throw of 33 feet 2 inches (10.11 meters).
Scarlett Hill took sixth in the 60m dash in 8.12 seconds, followed by Brekk Flax in ninth in 8.32 seconds and Jaycee Schettler in tenth in 8.35 seconds. Hill also competed in the 300 meter dash where she finished 10th in 43.81 seconds.
Daylee Olson took seventh in the 600 yard run at 1:32.29 while Alexis Allgood finished eighth in 1:32.61.
Noni Henderson placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 16 feet 3.25 inches (4.96 meter). Lexi Riley finished seventh with a jump of 15 feet 9.75 (4.82 meters). Riley also competed in the triple jump where she claimed fourth at 34 feet 0.25 inches (10.37 meters). Schettler came in ninth on a jump of 14 feet 9.25 inches (4.50 meters).
The Mavericks will have nearly a month of no competition until they pick up the action on Friday, January 12 at the Holiday Inn Invitational at Nebraska. The meet is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
