
Mavericks Pick Up Relay Win On Day One at SDSU

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Omaha track and field team got a relay win and several personal bests on the first day of competition at the SDSU Indoor Classic at South Dakota State.
The 4 x 800 meter relay team of Alyssa Thavenet, Anita Jenkins, Kayla Sabotin and Lauren Houston ran a time of 9:11.27 to not only win the race but set a facility record at the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.
Also on Friday, Willa Koenig ran the ninth-fastest 5,000 meter time in school history, coming in at 18:27.14. She was just ahead of Alyssa Averhoff who finished at 18:27.62. Annie Catania put up a personal best by 46 seconds with a time of 19:20.26.
In the 3,000 meters, Rosie Gensichen had a PR with a time of 10:36.42.
The Mavericks got three personal bests in the 200 meters. Sydnee Mitchell-Jemison was UNO's top finisher, coming in 23rd in the massive field of 139 runners with a time of 25.84. Daylee Olson ran a time of 26.97 while Brekk Flax posted a time of 27.20.
The final day of competition begins on the track with the 800 meters on Saturday at 9:45 a.m.
