More PRs For Mavericks In Summit Tune Ups

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Omaha track and field team posted several personal bests on the last week before the Summit League Championship.
The Mavericks competed in both the Nebraska Tune-Up in Lincoln and the USD Last Chance Meet at South Dakota on Friday.
At Nebraska, Alyssa Averhoff took second in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:15.99. Willa Koenig also finished in the top eight, coming in sixth with a time of 10:21.25.
In the 800 meters, UNO had two personal bests. Kayla Sabotin finished second with a time of 2:17.62, and Anita Jenkins came in ninth with a time of 2:22.47.
Alyssa Thavenet continued her parade of PRs, posting a time of 58.10 in the 400 meters to come in 13th.
At South Dakota, Anna Edet took second in the weight throw with a personal best of 53-05 ¾. It gave her sole possession of the third-best weight throw mark in school history.
Kirsten Leisinger post a big personal best in the same event, throwing 48-05 ½ to put her sixth. It was two feet better than her previous PR.
Edet also put up a personal best in the shot put with a throw of 42-00 ¾, good for fourth. Leisinger was sixth with another big PR. She threw 35-09 ½, more than three feet better than her previous mark.
In the triple jump, Nyakuome Thichiot had a personal best mark of 36-02 ¼, good for second.
The Mavericks will now prepare for the Summit League Championship at South Dakota State on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24-25.
