Mavericks On The Road To South Dakota This Week

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha track & field team will visit a Summit League venue this week, competing at the Dakota Realty Alumni Meet at South Dakota on Saturday.
The meet begins with field events at 10:45 a.m. from USD's DakotaDome.
A week ago, the Mavericks set a number of personal bests at the Jack Johnson Classic at Minnesota.
Freshmen Renata Valquier-Chavez and Willa Koenig ran two of the top seven 3,000 meter times in school history in that meet. Valquier-Chavez ran a time of 10:19.52 to finish ninth in the field of 29 runners. It was the fifth-best time in school history. Koenig was right behind at 10:20.30, putting her seventh all-time at UNO.
In the mile, Kayla Sabotin had UNO's top time, clocking in at 5:17.37, good for 18th in the field of 33 runners. Anita Jenkins was 21st in a time of 5:23.74, a personal best.
In the 400 meters, Alyssa Thavenet and Lauren Houston both ran a time of 59.68 with Thavenet edging Houston at the line. For Thavenet, the time was a personal best. Sydnee Mitchell-Jemison was right behind in a time of 1:00.97.
On the field, Anna Edet finished ninth in the shot put with a throw of 39-06 ½, less than three inches from her personal best.
In the long jump, Sasha Quattlebaum put up her third personal best of the season with a leap of 16-09 ¾, good for 12th place.
It's the first of two straight weekends in South Dakota for the Mavericks. Next week, they'll travel to Brookings to take part in the SDSU Classic at South Dakota State on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10-11.
