Ahrens Prepares For NCAA Preliminaries

OMAHA, Neb. – Junior Stephanie Ahrens of the Omaha track & field team will represent the Mavericks at the NCAA West Preliminaries on Friday.
It is the second straight season that Ahrens has qualified for the prelims in the high jump. She will compete on Friday, May 26 at 4:30 p.m. at Mike A. Myers Stadium at the University of Texas at Austin.
Ahrens repeated as the Summit League's high jump champion on May 12 with a jump of 5-10 ½, the best mark in the event in the Summit this season. She also earned All-Summit honors. Ahrens enters completion tied for 41st nationally in the event with that height.
Last year, Ahrens and the other competitors had to deal with inclement weather which changed the competition schedule and ultimately moved the event indoors. She cleared a top mark of 5-05 ¼ in her NCAA debut.
Ahrens has a PR of 5-11 ¼ in the high jump, just one-quarter inch from tying the school record. She already owns the school record in the indoor high jump at 5-10 ¾.
If Ahrens qualifies, she will move on to the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. on June 7-10.
