Ahrens Finishes Season at NCAA Prelims

AUSTIN, Texas – Junior Stephanie Ahrens overcame illness to finish in the top half of the high jump at the NCAA West Preliminaries on Friday.
Ahrens, UNO's lone qualifier for NCAA championship competition for the second straight year, posted a jump of 5-08 ½, finishing in a three-way tie for 21st out of the 48 competitors in the field. Her mark did not qualify her to move on to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. next month.
"Coach Sutton and I are extremely proud of the way Steph came out and competed even while battling sickness," said head coach Chris Richardson. "Even though she didn't make it to the next round, she still had a heck of a season."
Ahrens repeated as the Summit League high jump champion on May 12 with a mark of 5-10 ½, a season best. She earned Summit All-League honors for her efforts. Interestingly, her Summit League-winning mark was equal to the top mark at the West Preliminaries, a height hit by four athletes.
