SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Omaha swimming & diving team was back in action Thursday at the Summit League Championships, where four top-three finishes highlighted day two at Midco Aquatic Center.
Â
The Omaha diving corps starred in the 1-meter dive, where Annika Clinton placed second (243.45), Monica Houck took third (238.30) and Jacquelyn Gaworski followed in sixth (226.25).
Â
The 200-yard freestyle relay got the swimming portion started with a runner-up finish by the foursome of Kirsten Kracke, Madison Ewald, Brook Landt and Naeleah Hadford. They finished with a school-record time of 1:32.59.
Â
Rachel Morrow and Kylie Vermeire kept the momentum going for Omaha as the duo raced to seventh and eighth place finishes in the 500 freestyle with times of 5:02.48 and 5:02.56, respectively.
Â
Olivia McLain touched with a time of 56.20 in the 100 butterfly, which solidified her the fifth-place spot. The 200 IM followed, and Grete Baker led the way for the Mavericks with a sixth-place finish at 2:06.28.
Â
Hadford and Ewald finished off night two with third- and sixth- place performances in the 50 freestyle. Hadford's mark of 23.01 was a school record, and Ewald came in at 23.56.
"It was an incredible day today," head coach Todd Samland said. "We started this morning with numerous lifetime bests and placed very well for finals in the evening. Then the diving program took over. They really have elevated our program to a whole different level, finishing second, third, sixth, ninth and 10th, which is absolutely fantastic."
Â
"In the evening, we crushed our school record in the 200 free relay by a second and a half. That was such a huge drop, and those four athletes were all on fire. Each event after that raced well, scoring a lot of points and turning in some amazing swims for us."
Â
The Mavericks return to the pool on Friday, Feb. 16, with morning prelims starting at 10 a.m. and evening finals at 5 p.m.
