Omaha Maintains Momentum at Summit League Championships

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Omaha swimming & diving team was back in the pool at the Midco Aquatic Center on Friday for day three at the Summit League Championships, where the Mavericks remain in second-place in the team standings.
The 400-yard medley relay team of Kirsten Kracke, Tiril Jensen, Olivia McLain and Naeleah Hadford kicked off Friday night's finals with a fourth-place finish, touching the wall at 3:46.98 for a school record.
Grete Baker led the Mavericks in the 400 individual medley, placing third with a time of 4:27.99, and Lizzy Giese was right behind her with a time of 4:31.61 to finish fifth.
The 200 freestyle was up next, and Rachel Morrow raced to a seventh-place finish with a time of 1:51.51. Jensen then finished sixth in the 100 breaststroke with a mark of 1:04.16
"We had a fantastic night tonight," head coach Todd Samland said. "Before the meet started, I projected that this day would be our weakest possible performance, but what an incredible surprise. Our relay swam a school record, our 400 IM swam over the top, our 200 free followed up with an outstanding performance, and our breaststroke and backstroke held their own with really fast races.
"Today is over and tomorrow is another day. We will have our divers back in the mix and have some solid opportunities. The morning will be critical to our success."
The Mavericks are back in action for the fourth and final day of the Summit League Championships on Saturday, Feb. 17, with morning prelims starting at 10 a.m. and evening finals at 5 p.m.
