Mavericks Claim Runner-Up Finish at Summit League Championships

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Omaha swimming & diving team completed its run at Summit League Championships Saturday at the Midco Aquatic Center, finishing second in the team standings. It marked the program's best league finish in the Division I era.
Following the meet's completion, head coach Todd Samland was honored as the Women's Coach of the Championships, and diving coach Eric Sprague was named Women's Diving Coach of the Championships.
The Maverick diving trio of Monica Houck, Andrea Brosnahan and Annika Clinton started the night strong in the 3-meter dive, placing fourth (248.50), fifth (237.10) and seventh (229.85).
The 1650 freestyle final was determined in the morning's preliminary session, and Kylie Vermeire (17:24.33) and Lizzy Giese (17:43.94) snagged fifth- and seventh-place finishes, respectively.
Tiril Jensen and Brook Landt opened the swimming portion of the evening finals with seventh- and eighth-place performances in the 100 IM, clocking in with times of 59.37 and 59.40, respectively.
The 200 backstroke was up next, and Kirsten Kracke touched the wall at 2:05.32 for seventh place. Rachel Morrow and Naeleah Hadford followed in the 100 freestyle, placing seventh (51.32) and eighth (51.43), respectively.
The final individual event was the 200 butterfly, where a trio of Mavericks all made it to the podium. Olivia McLain was fourth (2:05.31), Samantha Starke took sixth (2:07.19) and Grete Baker placed eighth (2:08.51).
The meet concluded with the 400 freestyle relay, where Madison Ewald, Morrow, Hadford and Kracke medaled with a runner-up finish, tallying a time of 3:32.20.
"What an amazing weekend," head coach Todd Samland said. "When the opportunity presents itself, it takes courage to reach out and seize the moment – and that's what our team did this weekend. This was the result of the work and commitment of all 35 of our team members. Everyone pushed and contributed in so many ways, and I am so proud of our entire swimming & diving team."
