TULSA, Okla. - The Omaha track & field team opened its outdoor season at the Tulsa Duels on Friday and Saturday.
"This was a meet to see where we are and what we need to work on," said head coach Chris Richardson. "We had some good performances, but overall we were training through this meet.
"They've had a hard few weeks of training since the end of the indoor season to help get us ready for the competition we'll face during the outdoor season."
Anna Edet was second in the hammer throw with a mark of 152 feet (46.36 meters). Megan Adams took fifth with a mark of 134 feet 9.75 inches (41.09 meters). Lauren Doeschot was sixth at 133 feet 6 inches (40.69 meters) and Maddy Partridge took ninth at 117 feet 11.75 inches (35.96 meters).
Stephanie Ahrens, the reigning Summit League Indoor high jump champion, picked up where she left off with a first place finish. She cleared 5 feet 7 inches (1.70 meters).
In the 3,000 meter, Emily Johnson finished second in 10:51.36. Alyssa Averhoff took third and Anita Jenkins took fourth in 10:55.48 and 11:00.15, respectively. Following in sixth was Rosie Gensichen at 11:06.41, just ahead of Kayla Sabotin in seventh at 11:06.48. Annie Cantania was eighth in 11:11.04.
Jenkins also competed in the 1,500 meter, finishing 10th in 4:53.88
In other field events, Adams finished fourth in the javelin with a mark of 119 feet 5 inches (36.40 meters). Lauren Doeschot nabbed fifth with a throw of 115 feet 3.5 inches (35.14 meters) while Jaycee Schettler threw 81 feet (24.69 meters) and finished ninth.
In the discus throw, Edet claimed sixth in 119 feet 11.25 inches (36.56 meters), Cecilia Yale took seventh at 119 feet 5.5 inches (36.41 meters), and Partridge took eighth at 101 feet 6.75 inches (30.96 meters).
Jaycee Schettler finished third in the shot put with a mark of 35 feet 5.5 inches (10.81 meters). She also was the lone Maverick in the 100 meter hurdles where she finished tenth in 17.50 seconds.
The Mavericks are back in action on Saturday, March 31 at the Emporia State Relays in Emporia, Kan.
