OMAHA, Neb. - After two weeks off from competition, the Omaha track & field team returns to action at the Emporia State Relays on Saturday, March 31 in Emporia, Kan. The meet starts at 11 a.m.
The Mavericks opened the outdoor season two weeks ago at the Tulsa Duels where they claimed top-five and top-ten finishes.
Omaha athletes piled into the top ten for the hammer throw, starting with Anna Edet. She took second with a best mark of 152 feet (46.36 meters). Megan Adams followed in fifth with a throw of 134 feet 9.75 inches (41.09 meters). Lauren Doeschot took sixth with a throw of 133 feet 6 inches (40.69 meters), and Maddy Partridge finished in ninth with a mark of 117 feet 11.75 inches (35.96 meters).
In the high jump, Stephanie Ahrens took the top spot, clearing 5 feet 7 inches (1.70 meters).
Emily Johnson, Alyssa Averhoff, and Anita Jenkins took third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 3,000 meter. Johnson finished in 10:51.36, Averhoff in 10:55.48, and Jenkins in 11:00.15. Rosie Gensichen was sixth in 11:06.41, Kayla Sabotin nabbed seventh in 11:06.48, and Annie Catania finished eighth in 11:11.04.
Jenkins also competed in the 1,500 meter, finishing 10th in 4:53.88.
In other field events, Adams finished fourth in the javelin with a mark of 119 feet 5 inches (36.40 meters). Doeschot nabbed fifth with a throw of 115 feet 3.5 inches (35.14 meters) while Jaycee Schettler threw 81 feet (24.69 meters) and finished ninth.
In the discus throw, Edet claimed sixth in 119 feet 11.25 inches (36.56 meters), Cecilia Yale took seventh at 119 feet 5.5 inches (36.41 meters), and Partridge took eighth at 101 feet 6.75 inches (30.96 meters).
Schettler finished third in the shot put with a mark of 35 feet 5.5 inches (10.81 meters). She also was the lone Maverick in the 100 meter hurdles where she finished tenth in 17.50 seconds.
Omaha will once again have a two-week break from competition before the two-day Jim Duncan Invitational at Drake in Des Moines, Iowa on Friday and Saturday, April 13-14.
