Ahrens' Leap Nets Summit Honor
Apr 24, 2018 | Track & Field
ELMHURST, Ill. – Senior Stephanie Ahrens has been named the Summit League's co-Athlete of the Week for track & field.
It is the first outdoor honor for Ahrens who already has earned three indoor athlete of the week nods.
Ahrens had a leap of 5-11 ½ in the high jump at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific last Friday. She tied a school record first set by Kathie-Lee Laidley in 2013. Her mark is the best in the Summit League by more than six inches. It also is tied for ninth-best in the NCAA, is tied for 17th in the country and is tied for 55th in the world this year.
Ahrens now owns the school record in the event both indoors (5-10 ¾) and outdoors. The native of Lincoln, Neb. is the two-time defending Summit League outdoor high jump champion and was the indoor champion in February.
The Mavericks return to action at the Drake Relays on Thursday-Saturday, April 26-28 and the Kip Janvrin Open at Simpson College on Thursday and Friday.
