Jul 26, 2018 | Track & Field
NEW ORLEANS, La. – Senior Stephanie Ahrens earned yet another academic award by being named a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic recipient.
It is the first USTFCCCA award for Ahrens who earlier this year was named Academic All-Summit League and to the Summit Academic Honor Roll.
To qualify for the award, a student-athlete must have a 3.25 cumulative grade-point average and have finished the regular season ranked in the top 96th nationally in an individual event for the indoor season; or participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships outdoors.
Ahrens met the criteria for both seasons. Indoors, she tied for 52nd nationally in the high jump with a season-best leap of 5-09 ¾. Outdoors, she became Omaha's first Division I track & field All-American by tying for eighth at the national championships.
The native of Lincoln, Neb. owns the UNO record in the indoor high jump at 5-10 ¾ and is tied with Kathie-Lee Laidley for the school record in the high jump outdoors at 5-11 ½.
Ahrens was the Summit Champion in the high jump both indoors and outdoors in 2018, earning All-Summit honors. The outdoor title was her third straight, a Summit record.
Ahrens has one season of indoor eligibility remaining and will return to compete for the Mavericks this winter.
In addition, the Mavericks were named an All-Academic Team by the USTFCCCA for maintaining an all-team cumulative GPA of 3.40.
