Leinart, Gardner Named to All-Invite Team

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Omaha swimmers Annie Leinart and Caroline Gardner were named to the Kansas Class All-Invite Team as the Mavericks wrapped up action at this weekend's Kansas Classic on Sunday.
The Mavericks placed sixth out of seven teams in the team standings with a score of 178. On Sunday, Omaha garnered eight top 20 finishes in the finals.
This was a great meet for us this weekend," said head coach Todd Samland. "The team was shown a higher level of competition and responded very well. We had many swimmers, freshman to seniors, posting lifetime-best swims. With the results of this meet, we will be able to start putting together lineup scenarios for our conference championships in February."
Leinart notched the highest finish for the Mavericks on Sunday, placing eighth in the 200 breast with a swim of 2:21.71. Also in the 200 breast, Alyssa Parsons and Gardner went back-to-back in 19th and 20th-place, clocking a 2:25.38 and 2:25.84, respectively.
Bethany Gatlin swam a 2:06.39 to place 11th in the 200 fly while Rebecca Martini placed 16th with a finish of 2:11.69.
Abigail Mitchell finished in 11th-place with a time of 2:02.81 in the 200 back while Rachel Morrow swam a 52.87 to place 19th in the 100 free.
In the 1650 free, Lizzy Giese clocked a 17:56.54 to finish in 17th-place.
The Mavericks return to action with a Summit League contest vs. South Dakota on Friday, Jan. 17 at 6 p.m. at H&K Pool.
