Swimming Posts Top-10 Efforts In Opening Day of Coyote Invite

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Omaha swimming program completed the opening day of the South Dakota Coyote Invite in Sioux Falls, S.D.
"This is a great opportunity for us to see where were are at with three weeks before our conference meet," said head coach Todd Samland. "I am looking forward to the two sessions tomorrow to see how we respond."
The Mavericks had four swimmers place in the top-10 for session one in multiple events.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Rachel Morrow tallied a runner-up finish with a time of 24.14, followed by Madison Ewald in fifth at 24.71 seconds. Rounding out the team's top-10 result in the event were Kirsten Kracke in sixth (24.72) and Anna Capoun in ninth (24.88).
Capoun posted another top-10 effort in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:19.83 to finish fourth. Grete Baker placed two spots later in sixth (5:22.36), capped off by Kylene Abraham in ninth (5:28.75).
Rebecca Martini recorded a 10th place effort in the 100-yard butterfly (59.73), while the 200-yard free relay team of Ewald, Capoun, Abraham and Kracke posted a fourth-place result with a time of 1:39.27.
Lastly, the Mavericks had a quartet of swimmers finish in the top-10 for the 200-yard IM, as Bethany Gatlin led the way in fifth (2:13.24), preceding Lizzy Giese in sixth (2:14.36), Abbey Mitchell in seventh (2:15.90) and Sydney Haynes in ninth (2:19.26).
Omaha swimming returns to action tomorrow for the final day of the invite. The divers also begin competition in Chicago, Ill., at the UIC Diving Invite.
