SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Omaha swimming and diving program sits in third place after the second day of The Summit League Championships.

The team of Rachel Morrow, Madison Ewald, Anna Capoun and Kirsten Kracke finished runner-up in the 200 freestyle relay. Their recorded time also etches their names in the record books as the second-fastest time in school history at 1:33.79, besting the previous 1:33.96 set in in 2013. The time is also just over a second behind the 1:32.59 record, which was set last season.

Individually, Morrow also set the 500 freestyle record with a fourth-place finish at the championships as she recorded a 4:58.75. Her mark bests a three-year old school record (Morgan Stepp, 4:58.92, 2016).

Kylie Vermeire also had a top-8 performance in the event as she notched a time of 5:02.85 to finish sixth.

In the 100-yard butterfly, Bethany Gatlin finished third with a time of 56.82 for sixth.

Coming into the meet with the second-fastest 200-IM time in school history at 2:04.57, Grete Baker had an eighth-place performance and added to the top-5 all-time record list in the event as she swam a 2:05.21, the fourth-fastest in school history.

A duo of Mavericks placed in the top-8 for the 50-yard freestyle, Kirsten Kracke finished sixth (23.43), while Madison Ewald was right behind in seventh (23.79).

"I was impressed with our team today," said head coach Todd Samland. "We were able to place a swimmer in the top-8 in every event tonight. A definite highlight was Rachel getting the 500 free record. We are excited for tomorrow."

The third day of The Summit League Championships on Friday, Feb. 22, include 10 a.m. prelims in the 400 IM, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and the 400 medley relay. At 1 p.m. the divers return to action with the 1-meter prelims. The finals for those events begin at 5 p.m. later that day.
