Swimming Finishes Opening Day at National Invitational Championships

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Omaha swimming program finished the opening day of the National Invitational Championships Thursday.
"It was an awesome day to be a Maverick swimmer," said head coach Todd Samland. "Our 200 free relay team scored points by placing 15th. This is the highest relay placing at this meet. Our 400 medley relay also did an outstanding job moving up 10 places. Our energy was very positive and team oriented."
With a time of 1:34.21, the 200 free relay team that placed 15th consisted of Rachel Morrow, Madison Ewald, Anna Capoun and Kirsten Kracke.
Kylie Vermeire swam the 500-yard freestyle and placed 39th (5:01.90), while Bethany Gatlin placed 69th with a time of 26.22 in the 50-yard butterfly. Capoun finished 56th in the 50-yard backstroke (27.75). In the 50-yard free, Morrow (24.12) and Ewald (24.37) placed 57th and 70th, respectively.
Lastly, the 400 medley relay team of Kracke, Baker, Gatlin and Morrow finished 21st with a time of 3:49.25.
The Mavericks continue action tomorrow in Cleveland, as live stats and stream will be available to access via OMavs.com.
