Mavericks Post High Marks in Outdoor Opener

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Omaha track & field team got top-10 times and marks at the Mizzou Spring Open on Saturday, its first meet of the outdoor season.
Emily Johnson took first in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:32.44. It was the third-best 5,000 meter time in school history and was more than 30 seconds faster than her previous personal best.
Ivanna Uribe took third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:51.47, the fifth-best mark in the event in school history.
Lori Vedder posted the sixth-best javelin mark in school history with a throw of 123-08 (37.70).
"It's always an adjustment moving from indoors to outdoors, but we had a lot of people handle that transition very well," said Chris Richardson, head coach. "Ivanna, Lori and Emily getting top-10 marks was great for being the first outdoor meet. We now want to keep that momentum rolling into each competition."
In other events, Lauren Houston took second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:14.05.
In the field, Cassady Sunderman took sixth in the high jump with a personal best mark of 5-03 ¼ (1.61). Teammate Sidney Radziunas hit the same mark in one more attempt and finished eighth.
Anna Edet took fourth in the hammer throw with a distance of 163-00 (49.69).
The Mavericks are back in action next weekend, traveling to the KT Woodman Classic at Wichita State on Friday and Saturday, April 12-13.
