MACOMB, Ill. – Senior Lauren Houston earned All-Summit League honors in the 800 meters on the final day of competition at the Summit League Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Houston took third place in the event, running a time of 2:09.62 that was just .18 off her lifetime best. The top three places in each event take home All-Summit accolades. It was the second straight year that the Omaha native earned All-Summit distinction outdoors and the third time in her career for both indoors and outdoors.
"Lauren did a great job setting up the race for the finals today," said Cliff Cisar, assistant coach who coaches the distance runners. "She ran the exact way she needed to in order to put herself in contention to win or podium. I'm proud of how far she's come since her sophomore year and I know our team's future is better because of her footprint."
Houston finished her Maverick career owning the third-best time in the 800 meters both indoors and outdoors.
The Mavericks also got a school record and several more lifetime bests in the 5,000 meters. Emily Johnson reset her school record at that distance, running a time of 16:51.56. It was the second school record of the week for Johnson who set UNO's 10K standard on Thursday.
"Emily proved not only to herself but to everyone that she is one tough competitor," Cisar added. "It's not an easy task to race 15,000 meters in under 36 hours. She is paving the way for a new age of Maverick Distance tradition and is cementing herself as one of the best runners UNO has ever had.
"She has lead by example on and off the track this year, and her future is extremely bright."
Johnson finished the meet earning 11 points for the Mavericks.
Also in the 5,000, Heidi Hall reset her own lifetime best with a clocking of 17:32.70, good for 12th place. Ivanna Uribe, running the event for just the second time, put up a lifetime best of 18:49.92.
In the 400 meters, Sophia Kirwan took eighth place in her first Summit Championships appearance, running a time of 59.69 that fell just .7 seconds short of her lifetime best.
Anita Jenkins ran a season-best time of 4:52.80 in the 1,500 meters, finishing in 13th place.
In the relays, the team of Erinoelle Clifton, Scarlett Hill, Kirwan and Brekk Flax finished seventh in the 4x100 meters with a time of 48.70.
In the 4x400 meters, the team of Hill, Kirwan, Clifton and Houston finished eighth with a season-best time of 4:00.18.
