Mavericks Fifth in Summit Preseason Poll

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Omaha cross country team has been picked fifth in the annual Summit League cross country coaches' preseason poll.
The Mavericks received 22 points in the voting, ahead of Purdue Fort Wayne and just behind North Dakota.
North Dakota State was picked first in the poll with 47 points and five first-place votes, just edging out South Dakota with 45 points and three first-place votes. South Dakota State was third with 37 points. The full poll appears below.
Omaha junior Emily Johnson was selected as an Athlete to Watch this season. Johnson led the Mavericks in all six meets last year. The native of Elkhorn, Neb. earned second team All-Summit League honors for finishing ninth at the Summit Championship with a time of 21:44.25. It was the third-fastest 6K time in school history. It also marked the first time in four years that a Maverick had been named All-Summit.
The Mavericks open the 2019 season at the Augustana Twilight on Friday, Sept. 6 at 8:30 p.m.
