Mavericks Place Fourth at Summit League Championships

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Omaha swimming and diving team placed fourth in the team standings at the Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships presented by U.S. Air Force Special Warfare in Sioux Falls, S.D.
The 400 free relay finished fourth with a time of 3:29.96. Members of the relay were Anna Capoun, Caroline Gardner, Rachel Morrow and Abigail Mitchell.
"We have an amazing team in the pool and classroom," said head coach Todd Samland. "We had someone make the top-eight in almost every event. It was an extremely well-fought battle while down an athlete. At the end of the day, we missed third place by 23 points. I envision good things and a bright future ahead for the Maverick family."
Gardner led a quartet of Mavericks in the 100 IM, placing fourth with a swim of 58.63. Bethany Gatlin finished fifth with a time of 59.09 while Abigail Mitchell swam a 59.25 to place sixth. Parsons came in 13th with a time of 1:00.60
In the 1650 free, Maddie Mather placed sixth with a time of 17:37.52 and Lizzy Giese swam a 17:49.14 to finish eighth.
Four Mavericks finished in the top-16 in the 200 back, led by Abigail Mitchell's sixth-place finish with a time of 2:04.49. Mallory Dickey swam a 2:06.42 to finish eighth while Megan Latta placed 10th with a time of 2:07.85 and Sydney Schneider finished 13th with a time of 2:10.57.
Capoun finished seventh in the 100 free with a finish of 52.00 and Morrow placed ninth with swim of 52.48.
Annie Leinart led Omaha in the 200 breast, placing sixth with a time of 2:20.33. Gardner placed seventh and Parsons finished in ninth with finishes of 2:23.74 and 2:23.99, respectively. Abbey Mitchell placed 11th with a time of 2:27.47.
In the 200 fly, Gatlin swam a 2:07.64 to place eighth while Giese and Mackenzie Stewart tied at 13th place with a swim of 2:12.22.
In the 3-meter dive, Kady Eller and Reece Cooper went back-to-back in sixth and seventh place with scores of 243.65 and 228.75, respectively.
