Letters From Home: Mandi Granato

The following letter was written prior to the death of George Floyd and the nationwide racial equality protests.
Dear Maverick family,
These last couple months have been anything but ordinary. It was quite the transition going from being on campus to coming home and continuing classes. My professors were very helpful in making sure we had all the materials we needed to successfully complete each course. However, taking finals online isn’t as fun as one would think. All in all, I am excited to be done with classes and focus on working hard on my golf game over the summer.
Ever since I moved home to Illinois, my days have been filled with family time and a lot of yard work. The golf courses were closed for about a month and a half. So, in an effort to keep swinging the club, I rigged up some things in my backyard. But now that the courses are open, I have been playing everyday and enjoying the weather when I can.
I miss waking up in the morning to go workout at Baxter arena with Mike Lewis. I miss walking past Caniglia field on my way to class. I miss going into Sapp seeing all the athletes putting in extra work. I miss driving to Indian Creek every day. I miss the dorm life. I miss going to hockey games, tennis matches, soccer games, volleyball games and basketball games. I miss standing on the first tee box and getting those first tee jitters. But, most of all, I miss road trips with the team.
For now, as we wait for the day we can once again be on campus, I want to thank everyone who is a part of the Maverick community. Your support means everything to us. To our coaches, athletic department, professors and faculty, thank you for everything you have done to help us through this time. To all of our supporters and fans, thank you for sticking with us through this tough time.
I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. We will see you soon. GO MAVS!
