Mavericks Garner Sixth in Presason Poll

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Omaha men's golf team has been picked sixth in the annual Summit League preseason coaches' poll.
The Mavericks earned 25 points in the voting, just behind South Dakota and North Dakota State, who are tied for fourth, and ahead of North Dakota and Western Illinois who are tied for seventh.
Denver was picked to win the league, receiving 49 points and seven first-place votes. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team.
South Dakota State was picked second with 33 points, and Oral Roberts was third with 31 points. Interestingly, North Dakota received the other first-place vote.
Omaha's Josh Peters was named a Golfer To Watch this season. The sophomore led the Mavericks in scoring with a stroke average of 75.7 to rank fifth in the league.
Peters tied with teammate Mathew Halvorson for the top round of the fall, shooting 72 in the second round of the Maverick Invitational at The Creek on Oct. 12-13. He led the team in scoring in that event with a 54-hole tally of 221 to finish seventh overall.
The Mavericks begin the spring season at the Gulf Coast Collegiate in Diamondhead, Miss. on Monday and Tuesday, March 1-2.
