Young, Blackstock Sweep Summit League Weekly Awards

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - For the first time in program history, the Omaha men's swimming & diving team swept the Summit League Weekly awards, the league announced Tuesday afternoon. Daniel Young was tabbed the TicketSmarter Swimmer of the Week, while Ian Blackstock was named the TicketSmarter Diver of the Week.
Young was the Mavericks top finisher in three events this past weekend. He placed first in the 100-Breast with a time of 56.97. He followed up that performance with a time of 46.69 in the 100-Free. Young recorded another first place finish in the 200-IM swimming a time of 1:55.56.
In addition to his individual events, Young helped pace a 200-Medley Relay team to a second-place finish with a time of 1:32.91. He swam a time of 25.77 in his leg of the race.
"Daniel is an incredible worker and really enjoys racing," said head coach Todd Samland. "He is one of those athletes that seeks to get better and is invested in the process. I enjoy having him on our team and am excited to see what else he accomplishes this season."
Blackstock was Omaha's top diver in both events last weekend. In the 1M-Dive, Blackstock finished third with a score of 209.30. He wrapped up the meet with a second-place finish in the 3M-Dive event with a score of 213.25.
"This is great recognition for Ian at this early stage of his career," said assistant diving coach Eric Sprague. "Ian works hard and brings a positive attitude every day to practice. I am looking forward to seeing him continue his progress over the next four years here at Omaha."
