Gardner, Drake Sweep Summit League Weekly Awards

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Omaha women's swimming & diving swept weekly Summit League awards, the league announce Tuesday afternoon. Caroline Gardner was tabbed the Summit League TicketSmarter Swimmer of the Week, while Darby Drake earned the Summit League TicketSmarter Diver of the Week. This marks the first award of the season for both Gardner and Drake.
"Caroline's hard work in practice paid off this week," said head coach Todd Samland. "She raced competitively against some strong competition and performed very well vs. Nebraska. I look forward to seeing what else she accomplishes in the second half of the season."
Gardner picked up Omaha's lone first place individual finish last weekend vs. Nebraska. She swam a time of 29.72 in the 50-breast. Gardner also earned second in the 100-breast swimming a time of 1:05.52. In the opening event, Gardner helped the Maverick 200-medley relay team to first with a time of 1:45.40. She helped close the meet with a time of 3:34.28 for first in the 400-free relay.
"Darby continues to impress me with her work ethic and determination this season," said diving coach Eric Sprague. "She's been working back from injury and dealing with the availability of our facility very well. It is nice to see her diving well and hitting her stride at this point in the season. I'm looking forward to a strong finish to the season from Darby."
Drake earned her fourth honor of her career and first of the season. She posted a score of 263.63 in the 1M-Dive. She then picked up a third place finish in the 3M-Dive with a score of 217.35.
Gardner, Drake, and the Maverick women will return to action Friday, Dec. 17 at 1 p.m. vs. UNI.
